Garnet sand is made from garnet as raw material. It has the characteristics of high hardness, high temperature resistance, stable chemical properties, uniform particles, high grinding efficiency, no scratches, etc. Garnet sand is generally extracted from shallow sea. The freshly excavated garnet sand has a large amount of water, and the water content in industrial applications is required to be below 1%, so it needs to be dried first. Garnet sand drying usually uses a three-pass drum garnet sand dryer, which has a large processing capacity, small footprint, high thermal efficiency and long service life.
Working principle of garnet sand dryer:
Conveyed by belt conveyor or bucket elevator to the hopper, the sand comes into the feeding end of the dryer by a feeding device through a feeding pipe; the obliquity of the feeding pipe should be greater than that of the sand, so the sand can slip into the dryer easily; the wet sand and hot air can enter into the dryer from the same feeding end of the dryer, which is called co-current air flow drying process; or they can be fed into the dryer from different ends of the dryer, which is called count-current air flow drying process; as the dryer rotates, the sand inside moves forward from the feeding end to the discharging end of the dryer, and during this time, wet sand is being dried by the hot air; then dried materials are discharged and conveyed away by belt conveyor or screw conveyor.
Applications of garnet sand:
1. Sandblasting: Garnet abrasive has moderate hardness, high bulk density, no free silica, high specific gravity, and good toughness. It is an ideal "environmentally friendly" sandblasting material;
2. Free grinding: Grinding-grade garnet abrasive is used for free grinding in the fields of picture tubes, optical glass, single crystal silicon, lenses, watch glass, crystal glass, jade, etc.;
3. Resin abrasives: Garnet abrasive has suitable color, good hardness, toughness, suitable particle cross-section type and edge retention, and can be used as a filler to replace 20%-30% brown corundum for resin grinding
4. Coated abrasives: garnet abrasives are the raw materials for sandpaper, gauze and other manufacturers;
5. Functional fillers: mainly used in automotive brake parts, special tires, special building products and other fields, and can be used as wear-resistant materials for the construction of highway pavements, runways, docks, parking lots, industrial floors, sports venues, etc.;
6. Filter media: It is a new application field of garnet. Granular garnet is used as the bottom medium of the filter bed to purify drinking water or wastewater. It is especially suitable for non-ferrous metal beneficiation: oil drilling mud weighting agent;
7. Hydraulic cutting: It uses garnet abrasive as the cutting medium and relies on high-pressure hydraulic jets for basic cutting. It is used for cutting oil (natural gas) pipelines, steel and other parts. It is a new, environmentally friendly and safe cutting method.
