Electronic sludge refers to waste generated during the production process of electronic factories, including discarded electronic components, wastewater and other solid waste, which is harmful and needs to be treated in time. The rotary kiln calcination method is a common method for electronic sludge treatment, which mainly includes four steps: pretreatment, drying and calcination.

Pretreatment includes screening and crushing the sludge, increasing the contact area between the sludge and the air, and improving the efficiency of subsequent calcination treatment. Drying is to use a sludge dryer to remove part of the water in the electronic sludge and reduce the energy consumption of subsequent calcination. Calcination is to incinerate the dried sludge at high temperature to decompose organic matter into harmless substances.

The sludge calcination method has many key advantages, making it increasingly widely used:

  1. Reduction: reduce the volume of sludge, reduce storage and transportation costs, and reduce the pressure of subsequent disposal.

  2. Resource utilization: recover valuable metals; produce building materials such as ceramsite, bricks, cement, etc.; improve soil, increase fertility and water and fertilizer retention capacity.

  3. Harmless treatment: Kill pathogens, decompose harmful substances, remove odors, and reduce the risk of secondary pollution.

  4. Enhanced stability: Make the chemical and physical properties of sludge more stable, facilitate storage, transportation and subsequent treatment, and reduce the risk of leakage and pollution.

Feeding: Pretreated electronic sludge is fed into the calciner at a controlled rate based on the calciner's capacity and sludge properties to ensure stable calcination.

Low - temperature Calcination: The sludge is calcined at about 475°C in a micro - oxidizing atmosphere to decompose organic matter without excessive metal oxidation. The smoke is further burned at 920°C with 100% excess air to oxidize volatiles completely. Stir the sludge during combustion to prevent fire - out, and the sludge typically loses about 30% of its weight.

High - temperature Calcination: After low - temperature calcination, increase the temperature for high - temperature calcination (1000 - 1300°C for 1 - 3 hours). This further decomposes organic matter and causes physical and chemical changes in heavy metals, facilitating subsequent separation and recovery.
